This is a nice trip down memory lane. I had received a SNES for Christmas of '91, which after all these years had proved to be my favorite console. Recently, I have been really put off by a lot of the modern games. They just seemed to be more flash than substance. With the retro gaming scene exploding recently, I dug out an old box that still contained several of my old SNES carts. The urge to play them again proved overwhelming, and decided to check local pre-owned game stores.

All SNES consoles were too expensive, and I felt let down. Imagine my surprise when I pulled up youtube, and found a youtuber by the screen name of Gamester81 who reviewed a generically named 'New 16-bit Entertainment System' on his channel.

I watched, and was quite impressed by his overview of this particular clone console. I decided that since it. So I got this after seeing all these reviews of other types of Snes (as well as Nes, Sega Genisis etc) players I decided on this one. It looked like it was built with more care and with better materials. Not as shotty as some of the ones iv seen.

Also this uses SNES cartridges you don't have to try to run emulated games and have those kind of problems. Another good feature I like is it has a small LCD screen so you can play on the go. Though I believe the battery only lasts maybe 3 hours which if your a hard core gamer like some people that might not be enough time. If you have a plug in near by though you can charge it. I had a bunch of old SNES cartridges around and an old SNES but I didn't really want to hook it.

OK so first off, I should say that I recently purchased a Hyperkin Retron 5 which was unfortunately broken upon arrival, and also has - for me - some serious downsides to its functionality. Since that arrived broken, I sent that back for a refund. A week or so later I noticed the Retro Bit Super TRIO was also available and thought I'd give that a try instead - and I have to say, I'm much happier with this system for several important reasons. The good stuff: First and foremost, the Retro TRIO is a hardware based clone system so there is no discernable input lag when playing these games, whereas the Retron 5 uses an emulator running on an Android OS that did have noticeable input lag to me when I tried it. Secondly, the Retro TRIO has composite and s-video outputs that can. This product does exactly what it is supposed to. I acquired an N64, and when I was testing it out, both of the sets of AV cords I was given did not work, and neither did the coaxial cable that came with it (apparently they made those for the N64 as well) so i was almost worried that even though the system was obviously receiving power, if none of the three connections were working maybe there was a problem with the AV port in the system, but then when I ordered this, it worked just fine!
